from Rainbow Kayak Tours of Wailua River - Kauai
There is a reason Kauai is considered the garden isle. While there are many ways to explore this incredible give of natural beauty, kayaking offers a special opportunity to experience the many facets of this island paradise in one fun adventure.

Paddle the majestic Wailua River, the original home of the first Hawaiians, who paddled 1500 miles from the Marquesas Islands to Kaua`i almost 1500 years ago. Hear the legends and learn about the flora and fauna of Kauai`s most sacred area. After paddling past numerous Heiaus along the cliff lines of the Wailua, you will reach Kamokila village, a replica of an ancient Hawaiian village and traditionally a sacred fishing and farming area. Soon you will come to the North Fork where you will paddle leisurely through the Garden Isle's most beautiful jungle river until you come to the trailhead for Secret Falls. Enjoy a moderate hike through Kauai rainforest to an enchanting waterfall, which descends 120' into a natural pool surrounded by rocks and vegetation. Inclement weather rarely stops this fantastic journey!

Tour times: 7:00 am & 12:30 pm. The 4.5 hour trip includes snacks, lunch and bottled water.

Was very impressed with the value of this tour. From the freedom to paddle and hike at our own pace, to the fresh sandwich-fruit at destination; this was very rewarding. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting a great adventure at a reasonable price.

Our guide Matt was fantastic; upbeat and very knowledgable about the history, geography and plant and animal life. The paddle was enjoyable and the hike was somewhat muddy but very doable. The (not-so) Secret Falls weren't overly crowded but there was definitely a good number of people there but plenty of room for all. The packed lunch provided was good and I had alerted the company that one our kids has a peanut allergy so our lunch was packed separately from others' and very clearly labeled. Thank you!!

We loved this excursion. Our guide, Thomas was very knowledgeable, helpful and patient - an awesome guide! The kayaking portion of the trip required a bit of paddling. The great beauty of the river and tranquility along the way made up for the little effort you put into paddling. We enjoyed the challenge of trekking through the mud and being rewarded with a beautiful Secret Waterfall. The scenery is amazing the entire trip. My husband and I are in shape and have good balance. We did this with my cousin and uncle. Both of them had a difficult time. I would recommend that those who are not in decent shape don't do this. You don't have to be in great shape, but know that the mud is slippery for nearly an entire mile each way and it requires some degree of balance. You will have mud up to at least your ankles and wade through a few waterways that have slippery rocks - embracing the mud was the best advice - it was like a mini spa treatment for your feet ;-) I also recommend you use the shoes they offer at the office, instead of your own. The mud is orange and stains. My white socks ended up purple (?), and don't look like they'll be white again. Overall, a great trip!
