"Review your bill. CAREFULLY "

Definitely not coming back to this hotel. At check-out, when reviewing my bill, there where 3 mystery charges for $80.00 each day of my stay as a “day room” charge. First I was told this was for an upgrade which I did not request, then i was told it was for late check-out on my day of departure. As a Bonvoy Ambassador the late check out is supposed to be complimentary. And if it was for a late check out. Why would it appear on every day of my stay. Further review showed that I was additionally charged another $29.95 per day for premium internet which the hotel actually handed me a document saying these charges were included as part of my ambassador status. After being left alone for several minutes, these charges removed with no explanation. I had also explained to my Ambassador I was traveling in for a family funeral, and requested to use my Your 24 benefit for an early check-in. The hotel refused to confirm it and I had to adjust my travel/family plans accordingly. Also note you will pay a $30.00 a day resort fee which includes a Lei service, which I was never offered. Heck, I wasn’t even offered assistance with 2 heavy suitcases. The hotel pools are very dated, and there are very few palapas or umbrellas to provide shade so expect to be in direct sunlight. Outside of the adult pool, there were loud families and children everywhere. Lastly the Spa, very dated. The view from the relaxation area is the same from the Oceanside restaurant. The relaxation area only provides a couple of magazines (golf and good housekeeping) and there is no tinting on the widows so it’s hard to enjoy the ocean views. I also found the shower facilities dirty, with washcloths left on the floor of the shower from previous guests. On the bright side, the location of the hotel offers easy beach access and is convenient to get off property which you will. The breakfast buffet and the Oceanside views are also fantastic.

"Detailed review of beautifully renovated rooms in Beach/Luxury Tower (with pics!)"
TripAdvisor user rating 5 out of 5
Reviewed March 17, 2019 NEW
The Westin Maui Resort and Spa is a gem of a hotel on Kaanapali Beach. The hotel has just undergone a major renovation of the lobby and the rooms in the Beach Tower/Luxury Tower, with some ongoing work still being done on their new parking garage. I had a longish stay here and a great experience. The last time I had been at the Westin was several years ago, and when The Westin did its previous renovation of rooms in the Ocean Tower, they did away with all bathtubs in those rooms in favor of luxury showers. Disappointing for me upon my return to this hotel, because 1) the Ocean Tower has the lowest-priced rooms, 2) I actually adore the Mountain View rooms in the Ocean Tower—the sunrise over the West Maui mountains is a magical experience, 3) I’m a bathtub person. So I booked a room in the Luxury Tower. WORTH IT. The just-completed room renovations are lovely, practical, and modern. Details (see accompanying pics—some of them came from another room I viewed, so they’re reversed): 1. I had a south-facing, Ocean View room with 2 Queen Beds. This gives a view of the pool, the other hotel tower, and the ocean—plus, on a high floor, you also get the view of the West Maui Mountains. Ideal! 2. The lanai, or balcony, has 2 comfortable chairs and a small round table, plus floor padding. Do what I did and bring carry-out dinner to your room some evenings and dine out here. You’ll have the best dinner view on the island. 3. The lanai doors are sliding glass; there is an opaque curtain and a sheer curtain that still affords you a view of the outside. Flying bugs don't seem to be a problem on Kaanapali but you might get the occasional curious bird! So the sheer is useful for that, as well as affording you a touch of privacy. 4. The central air is programmed to turn off when the lanai door is opened, and restart as soon as it is closed. (This is a common feature in Hawaii.) There is no ceiling fan. 5. Wood-like, light-colored floors with rug-like padding underneath the bed area makes for a great clean feel in the room, and the padding also feels clean on your feet when getting into or out of bed. 6. The beds have a boxed-in bottom, so you don’t have to worry about losing items under the bed. 7. Still got the Westin Heavenly Beds! I’m not sure if it’s the mattress or the duvet or both, but this has always been a dream of a bed. When the day’s coming to a close and you’re sad another day of your trip is over, you think, “At least I get to sleep in that wonderful bed.” The mattress is a pillow top and soft. Lots of pillows, too, plus a great little neck/back slim pillow for sitting up. 8. Padded built-in headboards plus pillows make it very easy to sit up comfortably in bed and read. 9. There is a great feature behind the headboards; a narrow shelf runs all along the wall and is absolutely flush with the headboard padding, so nothing can drop down and be lost. Great place for phone, headphones, tablets, books, water bottle, pens, travel candle, bluetooth speakers, etc...Anything you’d want near you in bed. 10. Plus there’s a bedside table between the Queen beds featuring a telephone and a really nice clock radio—it dims automatically with the room lighting, tells you the date, and has bluetooth speakers for you to connect your devices. Best bedside clock I’ve ever had in a hotel. 11. If this isn’t enough near-the-bed storage for you, each bed has an extra handy shelf big enough for your phone. 12. If this still isn’t enough storage, the decor on the headboard wall has included some flat-topped semi-oval insets...you could actually use those as well! I like these; it’s like a reassurance you’ll always have a little extra space. 13. And, of course, outlets and charging ports. The small shelves on each side, and the bedside table, each have one AC outlet and 2 usb ports in the wall. There are also outlets and charging ports at the wall table. 14. Each bed has a reading light with its own control. 15. My room had a chaise lounge against the far wall of the bed area; sturdy, comfortable, very handy for reading or napping. 16. The usual “takes up an entire corner of the room” desk has been replaced with a built-in, tapering, stylishly appropriate for Hawaii table built into the wall opposite the beds. The wide end is large enough to sit with a laptop and mouse while the narrow end acts as the usual “slap all your papers down here” space. 17. Above this is the flatscreen TV. Good-sized, and while the HDMI ports are not right out in the open, they can be reached in the back in order to plug in a cable for your devices. And happily the TV remote does allow you to change settings to get to the HDMI input. Use “Function” for TV settings, “Guide” for the channel guide, and “Menu” to get to Westin functions like your account and pay-per-view. There is also a “control this TV with your phone” option with the StayConnect app. 18. All lighting is built into the walls so there is no lamp footprint taking up space on the floors. 19. “Kitchen” area is just inside the entryway and has a big counter space (matches the wood table) and lots of built-in undershelves—these are great for storage of your complimentary water bottles, snacks, magazines, whatever. There a Nespresso machine with complimentary coffee pods plus tea bags (nice to have a machine to make hot water that doesn’t taste like coffee residue). The underspace features a small fridge behind a door (no freezer in it—personally I prefer having no freezer as I don’t risk freezing the contents of the whole fridge if the temperature is set too low). (There is no microwave.) 20. There is a full-length mirror on the wall in the room that, YAY, isn’t in the bathroom or the bathroom door! Great to have this separate from the bathroom. 21. Closet and clothing storage: Situated in the entranceway. There is a slatted closet which I rather like as it allows a better view of your hanging clothes when you’re pulling them out (sunlight does not reach, don’t worry), but they still feel as if they are shut away. It is tall enough to store even long dresses, and still keep shoes in the bottom. 22. Drawer storage is at a slight pinch, a common problem in rooms that are trying to be open and airy without furniture bulk. You get 3 good-sized drawers, plus two very large open shelves. A pushcode safe, big enough to stack 2-3 laptops, is also present. There is also a narrow long closet that houses your ironing board, luggage rack, and iron. You might be able to get an item or two on the top shelf there. 23. There is enough storage space for suitcases to the side of the closet, in front of the adjoining door, so if you don’t need to use the adjoining door you shouldn’t feel as though your suitcases are in the way. If you are using that door you might find storing your suitcases tricky! 24. Bathroom: the real gem of the room. A sliding pocket door closes off the bathroom with minimum footprint. The tub/shower combo is gorgeous, with a huge square built-in tub great for soaking, an overhead rainshower head, plus a handheld shower wand. Hot water is immediate and abundant. A partial glass door is present which did just fine keeping the room dry. The door partially swings open rather than slides. (I’ve also included a picture of the shower-only option.) Dual sinks, huge mirror, side magnifying mirror. Towel storage space under the sinks. Hooks rather than towel bars give a modern look. Lighting is excellent, though there is no option to turn on one small light for visiting the bathroom in the night; it’s all or nothing. Toilet area is divided by a partial, slatted wall that matches the closet appearance, giving the illusion of separation but not actually shutting you away, plus you don’t have to touch a door before washing your hands. (Have you guessed I don’t like a water closet design?) There is no bathroom fan. 25. Toiletries feature Westin’s signature White Tea & Aloe scent. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion, and soap. There is also complimentary mouthwash. 26. Proximity keycards for the door; the door also has the usual inner safety locks. Overall, a great room renovation, and well worth the cost of the comfort. The multi-level pool remains a great feature; it’s arguably the nicest on Kaanapali, with its slide, grotto, and waterfall features, though it lacks deep water areas, which I wish it had. There is no zero entry spot though there is a disability transfer chair. A hot tub is on the adult pool level; there is a bubble tub inside the grotto that isn’t really a “hot” tub but is fun. There is poolside food and drink service with a good-sized menu. I did not eat at poolside nor at the Relish restaurant during my stay. The towel service tent will ask your room number and name or ask you to scan your room key card. The location IS the greatest on Kaanapali beach: right next to Whalers’ Village. The hotel itself does not have much in the way of shopping on the grounds—there is one very well-stocked gift shop with clothing, jewelry, drinks, snacks, magazines, Hawaiiana, beach gear, and toiletries. But you don’t need anything else when you have Whalers’ Village next door! Housekeeping did a great job every day. You have the option of declining housekeeping on a daily basis and getting loyalty points if you wish. Valet parking is $30/day, as many times in and out as you wish. Self-parking should be up soon after the renovation and will run $17/day. There is a resort fee of $30/day as well, and that covers wi-fi in your room and throughout the resort (maximum 8 devices per room) and 24-hour gym. A very nice spa/locker room with whirlpool, steam room, and sauna is $15/day or free with a spa service that day. Yoga classes are $10/day for hotel guests. Many thanks to Miyako, Chris, Evelyne, all the great valet gentlemen, and many other employees! Can’t wait to return next year! (A last thing: There are 3 Westin properties on Ka'anapali: Westin Resort and Spa, Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas, and Westin Nanea Ocean Villas. Make sure you're making reservations where you want to be!)

We have been coming to the Westin Maui Resort & Spa every year for the last 7 yrs. We love this hotel, and its location. Every year when we arrive we are welcomed back by name by everyone from the valets to the people at the front desk to our housekeeper, Bella and all the other staff. Check in was a breeze and Dawn saw to it that everything went smooth. Dawn & Lori gave us big welcome back hugs along with everyone else. We had a beautiful room on the 9th floor in the beach tower and did not hear any construction noise while we were there. They are renovating parts of the hotel but it was stated on their website. Everyone was friendly, courteous, accommodating and always smiling. Todd & his pool team were great and Kevin in guest services did everything to make our stay wonderful. We are looking forward to returning next year and seeing the new renovations. It is really nice when ALL of the staff remember you each year. They have made us feel like we are part of the Westin family and it really makes us feel welcome at this hotel. Thanking all of you for helping to make this a great vacation.

We visited again this year with owner friends and had a wonderful time. The suites are great with a full kitchen, washer and dryer and a lovely balcony. Service was awesome as usual. Our concierge Joanna Power was fantastic. She helped us make plans for a great snorkeling trip, a fun bike ride down Haleakala, dinner and show reservation, spa appointments and resort activities. We enjoyed bingo, a cooking demonstration at Puehulu restaurant and poker. We grilled by the pool a few nights and also ordered in a delicious chicken from the hotel deli. So nice to have a full kitchen so we could bake too. We went into Lahaina for some dinners but also ate at the hotel. There are several nice restaurants. Massages by Kathi were awesome. We hate going home to snow after being here for a few weeks. We always look forward to coming back.
