The Paul Hotel is a family owned business which strives to replicate their own family values throughout their organization. Hotel guests are indulged with a clear, direct, and focused attention to their needs. A Paul guest is greeted with utilitarian effort and an easy going atmosphere. The Paul Hotel is home to Paul the Nomad who is planting his roots at 32 West 29th street; in his home Paul guests are the priority.

Inspired by the mercantile history of the Flower District, the newly constructed 21-story, 50,000 square foot building was designed by Matt Markowitz Architects and Sharma Group Development. The hotel takes its cue from the history and character of the surrounding NoMad neighborhood with details inspired by the textures and energies of the city and its iconic skyline. The NoMad areas resurgence is due to the legacy of its fine architecture and the beautifully restored Madison Square Park.

From your first step into Paul's Drawing Room, you will be immersed in the distinctive, boutique character of THE PAUL. The design of its 122 residential-style guest rooms with expansive loft-style windows impart a light and airy atmosphere offering dramatic and unparalleled views of The Empire State Building to the North and The Freedom Tower to the South. All of PAUL's guestrooms are custom designed and softly integrate the urban landscape of the local neighborhood in unexpected and playful ways. The interior design team was led by Ronica Sharma of Sharma Group Development.

Can’t quite see why this is classed as a 4*. A bit grubby and pokey in the lobby area, was our first impression but as we had booked via Secret Escapes I felt certain that our experience would improve. Sadly it did not. It is currently surrounded by building works which seem to start at 7 am and that explains earplugs provided in the room... or perhaps they are to cancel out the noise of the very loud air con and road noise. Housekeeping never answered the phone at all the 3 times I tried during out 4 night stay. No bar facilities on a Sunday. No concierge service. Very basic buffet breakfast with no fruit or yogurt where you are only allowed one plate which is not large. Yes that sounds strange- I’ve never heard of that one before anyway. Housekeeping generally lacking with very low attention to detail. Reception staff show no enthusiasm to help in any way. Poor water pressure in the shower. There is one ok thing- the rooms are not grubby like the lobby, they were in fact clean and average. Overall a bit disappointing.

I was dithering about whether to stay here or not. But basically I had a great deal and finally settled. I am pleased that I did. Look at a map of Manhattan and you can see that it is an ideal location. (I tend to walk everywhere in Manhattan and The Paul allowed me to walk to wherever I needed to go.) The hotel is rather narrow with only about six or seven rooms per floor which is a plus since fewer people, less noise. Given that this is Manhattan street noise is inevitable so do try to get a room on a higher floor. There are also ear plugs in the drawer of the room to help the more delicate get a good night's sleep. (For some unexplained reason the hotel supplies a dictionary in lieu of the usual Gideon's Bible. Perhaps they are aiming at more literate reviews of the hotel.) This is New York so don't expect a large room. But it is sufficiently reasonable in size, enough for comfort. The staff is very accommodating and friendly. I rocked up about 1:40 PM and was happily checked in despite their official policy. There is a very comfortable lounge on the bottom floor as well as a bar. My hotel deal included two free drinks. The bartender knew his stuff and made me one of the best bloody marys I've had in many a year. So good price, good location, comfort. I would be mean-minded not to be generous with my rating.

Birthday trip to The Paul in the NOMAD district. Subway one block away (around the corner); easy walk to 34th street area too....beautiful. Room was comfortable and Empire State Building could be seen from our window. Room was clean and queen bed very comfy. Lots of plugs with built in side tables for phones, etc. There is construction in the area but not too noisy (we were out of the room most of the day until late evening). Would return to The Paul!
