Salisbury Hotel in New York, NY

This hotel was a HUGE disappointment, so much so we checked out after one night and found ourselves another hotel for the remainder of our stay. The weather was freezing and the hotel foyer, which was grubby and small, had no heating. Unfortunately neither did our bedrooms. Someone had to come and crank the old and rusting radiator to get it working and even then the heat went straight out of the single glazed filthy windows. We were 8 floors up and could hear conversations on the sidewalk below. The bedding was so synthetic that when you moved in the dark it was like a firework display as the sheets sparked against the thin blanket. The mattresses were badly soiled, and bedding smelt anything but fresh. The bathroom was small, old, with grubby grouting. The bed settee was mouldy, disintegrating, broken and unusable. We overheard in the lift that the hotel was owned by the church next door and that was the reason no money was being spent to modernise it. It showed. When we complained it was clear the staff had heard it all before. The only positive was that under the contract they could have charged us for 2 nights but only charged us for the one. We moved to the Executive Hotel le Soleil, W36th between 5th and 6th ave first thing next morning which wasn't that much more expensive, and it was everything the Salisbury wasn't; warm, inviting, great atmosphere, clean smart and well equipped rooms, friendly staff and a great restaurant which served breakfast included in the price. I wouldn't recommend the Salisbury to anyone.

Just finished a family trip with child and non-English speaking relatives. Stayed in the Hotel for five days. We stay on the 15th floor.The heater is very comfortable. Room is wide with closet to store clothes. A walk-in-closet is pretty useful to hang the heavy coats and winter shoes. Although every night there were ambulances passing by, we are too tired with jet-lag and did not disturbed by that. A microwave was pretty useful when you wake up in the night or feel suddenly sleepy in the afternoon. The 24 hour supermarket is located crossing the street. In the daytime it is very easy to get hot food and soup there in reasonable prices. Several international sites within the walking range so it is a friendly spot for child. Staff are nice.

We've stayed here for a couple of years now during Columbus holiday weekend. Fantastic staff, very accommodating. Convenient location across the street from Carnegie hotel, close to Broadway. Our room had a fridge and microwave. Lots of restaurants nearby and a market across the street. Convenience is the name of the game here. Book early for best rates

Fantastic warm hotel. Check in was great with very welcoming staff. The room was huge with nice beds. Only thing was the window could have been cleaned I couldn’t see out. Apart from that, great location, great team, affordable hotel in heart of a great city.

I've stayed at the Salisbury dozens of times over the past 25 years. The hotel's prices are so reasonable because there are limited hotel services: no room service, no restaurant or coffee shop in particular. But the rooms are enormous (with good insulation; very little noise from the hall or neighbors), on the shabby side but always clean, and most rooms have a microwave and small refrigerator, as well as a six-drawer clothes bureau and a real, large clothes closet with ironing board and iron The hotel is surrounded by restaurants, and there's a pricey but excellent take-out deli two or three doors to the east of the hotel. It's a relatively easy location from which to get a cab, and you can walk to Lincoln Center; Carnegie Hall is diagonally across the street. Internet service is NOT free; about $10/day, $35/week. Recommended!.
