Spent a very enjoyable hour or so here, although you could easily spend longer. The lady on site was lovely and so accommodating, we felt we got a real insight in the past. Would definitely recommend.

This is not a large reconstruction site, but a very interesting overview of Central Florida in the 1890s. Some of the buildings are reconstructions and some are original and have been moved here. This is close to Shingle Creek and the headwaters of the Everglades. You can get a good feel for what life was like back then, including in the backwater where there were few people. There's a church, a school, several houses and farms, and a small Indian camp area. We spent about 1 1/2 hours wandering through the exhibits in a calm manner, visiting with an Armadillo before we left.

I've been to Florida and the Kissimmee area lots of times but this is the first time we have visited the Pioneer Village. There are some original buildings and some that have been recreated. We unfortunately arrived about half an hour before they closed and ended up rushing round to see all of it. So, my advise would be - go earlier in the day - nicely set out and interesting. Just allow yourselves enough time to view it properly.

We had been kayaking on Shingle creek ( a must by the way it’s brilliant) and noticed people walking down the side of the creek under the bridge which carries the 192 overhead. On that tricky last day of holiday, when you have filled all your luggage with gifts and bargains, we decide to stop at the free car park by the creek and take that stroll down the side of shingle creek. It’s a lovely stroll on concrete paths, over wooden slatted bridges, by lakes (naturally it’s Florida after all) where we watched an Osprey try repeatedly to catch his dinner, unsuccessfully alas. About a mile and a half ,at a guess , down the path we came across the Pioneer village a lovely quiet re-creation of dwellings from a bygone age . Take the time to stroll around , get out the car and take a breath, you’ll be surprised and delighted, with the other side of Florida

A lovely place to visit after the bustle of other attractions and Black Friday. A large number of houses arc from the old pioneering days and knowledgeable staff.
