Went to see this with a large group. A very thought provoking play with a solid cast, good musical numbers, and quick pacing. Went with teenagers who thoroughly enjoyed the play as well. I recommend it for anyone who enjoys musicals

"Amazing first half. Lukewarm finale."

The musical was unevenly paced, but wonderful choreography, fantastic set pieces, and two powerhouse performances from the leads (including a performance of a lifetime from Callum Francis as Lola) kept the rather poorly developed script from being too intrusive. Callum Francis was absolutely incredible as Lola. I really can't describe it. It's the single greatest performance I've ever seen from an actor. To be fair, Andy Kelso was absolutely fantastic as Charlie, and if it weren't for the script driving his character under the bus in a minimally supported 180 in the second act, and for the obvious comparisons to Francis, I think I would be raving about his role far more. Carrie St. Louis was fine as Lauren, but the quirky, loveable misfit role felt out of place, and it was repeatedly reduced to incessant gags, leaving me unfulfilled, barring one small but pleasant scene in the second act. Daniel Stewart Sherman was a great Don. As with Lauren, though, they skipped some character development. I wish that there had been another scene between the workers leaving and his acceptance of Charlie to provide additional insight into the change, but I can't deny that the part was well acted and entertaining. My complaints with the play come down to the script. The best musical numbers were all in the first act, particularly Land of Lola and Not My Father's Son. Additionally, most of the best character exposition for Charlie and Lola occurs in the first half. Almost nothing is left for the second act except for some character development for Don. We get to experience some minor relationship issues that weren't given enough exposition in the first act to make us care in the second. The finale is the third or fourth most entertaining piece in the show, and there is a dramatic character change in Charlie that is woefully unsupported by previous events. And lo and behold, I've gone and made a positive review sound negative and bitter. That wasn't my intention, and if you're trying to decide on a play, Kinky Boots should definitely be in consideration. The set pieces, choreography, and acting are more than enough to make up for the script, and I wholeheartedly recommend it.

this is my first Broadway show and I was spell-bounded by it. The songs, music, dances, actors and actresses were just amazing as was their sense of humor. I am so glad I went for it and I will definitely watch this show again when I visit New York. I have never been so happy after watching a show.
