from Island Breeze Lu'au
Winner of the "Best of West Hawaii" award which was first presented in 2000, the Island Breeze Luau at King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel is a favorite of kama'aina (local residents), visitors and travel professionals.

Each evening guests are invited to join in a cultural experience that shouldn't be missed. The lu'au is well known for its delicious food and its amazing Polynesian production, and its beautiful unique location. It is held on the beachfront of historic Kamakahonu Bay and Ahu Ena, Kamehameha the Great's former estate in Kailua-Kona. Guests enjoy a backdrop of passing fishing boats, paddlers in outrigger canoes, and the lights of Kona and Mount Hualalai.

Considered a "Royal Hawaiian Experience", the lu'au features a 22 dish buffet, open bar, Polynesian arts & crafts demonstrations, and the Royal Court procession. Highlighting the evening is the spectacular Polynesian Revue. Where authenticity and the skills of the Island Breeze Ohana, is matched only by the spirit of aloha they share with the audience. All of this creates a very special cultural experience and memories that will last a lifetime.

The Island Breeze show is filled with excitement, aloha and 'ohana, (love and family). From the Fijian and Maori dances of war to the gracefulness of our Hawaiian hula hands, we bring you and your family a fun-filled evening. Our daring Samoan Fire knife dancer highlights your experience with an astonishing demonstration of bravery and skill!

It does not get a very good only because weather forced it inside which really takes something away from the event. However they were willing to change it to another day for me , unfortunately I was leaving the island and was not able to reschedule.

"Luau Love"
June, 2018
I Lved the Island Breeze Luau. It was my first time to visit Hawaii. The luau was not just entertaining and delicious. It was also like watching a living history lesson. I learned about all the Polynesian countries that influenced Hawaii through dance. The unveiling of the pig at the beginning of the dinner portion was also very cool. Watching King Kamehameha and the Royal Court walk in at the beginning showed how important the Royal Family still is to the people of Hawaii. I just want to say Mahalo to Island Breeze for the wonderful experience ????

We have been to many luaus on many different islands and this was one of the best we have been to. We decided not to deal with parking and rode the trolley to this event. (it drops off right in front). We lined up early in the hotel lobby, and got great seats assigned even though we weren't VIP. Once inside the mai tais were self serve from punch bowl, and kind of weak...but you could got to the full bar for an extra shot for no charge if desired. The royal court arriving by boat and procession was very cool. There was plenty of activities, games etc to keep both young and old occupied prior to the meal. The food itself was very good, which i find usually is not the case at luaus. They also had a separate buffet with children's food, but our son stuck to the adult line. The show itself was pretty standard, with a mix of different Polynesian cultures...and there was fire, which is a must when bringing kids to the luau.

I’m local, local as can be. We had friends in town from Iowa, and they treated us to this luau. I had always heard this was one of the best luaus on the Big Island. I’ll have to agree with that! There was a bunch of fun things to do before the “luau” started. Hawaiian tattoos, a hawaiian board game, hula lesson, the removal of the Kaula pig, arrival of the Royal Court and a FULL bar. So many luaus only have the premixed Mai Tais and Blue Hawaiians. I can’t drink that sugary stuff because I’m diabetic, so it was nice to have another option. The entertainment was top notch! The food was excellent, and I mean really good! There was a children section with Mac and cheese, French fries, and chicken tenders (adults could eat there too LOL). Our friends payed for “preferred seating”. I highly recommend it. We got to sit up front. No need to rush because they have already assigned your seats. I would highly recommend this luau, and would happily go again!

This luau had many activities for us. We watched the dancers arrive by boat and enter the luau, played games, learned to hula, watched a beautiful sunset, ate very tasty food, and watched a great show of dancers. I highly recommend this event.

If you have never been to a luau, you need to experience it once in your lifetime. Island Breeze operates out of the Courtyard by Marriott hotel in Kona. It is a solid three and a half hours of fun and entertainment. The food was also a cut above your average buffet fare. The singers, dancers and live band did a wonderful job of keeping everyone entertained, and the MC was terrific as he explained all of the various aspects and history of the luau.
