"Beautiful property that needs a facelift"

The location atop Nob Hill is wonderful and the staff is helpful and attentive. Room service is quick and the phone attendant was extremely cheerful and kind. Only two buts: 1. New carpeting and upholstery is badly needed (stained and worn out); 2. Top of the Mark has an incredible view, but the experience would be so much more enjoyable if they had the right glasses (a martini or a manhattan are served out of those dated glasses our grandparents used to sip champagne out of). Also, how can a BAR run out of maraschino cherries?? All in all, we were very happy during our stay and got very good value for our money.

"Nice comfortable beds with great breakfast!"

Hotel is old and dated but the super comfortable bed with Frette sheets makes up to the lack of modern and up to date amenities. I slept so beautifully! Breakfast was great too. Lots of options and very appetising. I had a newbie during check in so that whole check in experience took a while but overall I had a good stay..

"Great Hotel, ammenties need work."

I stayed at this hotel for the ABM conference. The hotel itself is great. Situated on a hill, you can overlook all of San Francisco. The only disadvantage, and maybe done purposely is that to get a snack, hard, a coffee, harder, any other type of sundries don't exist at this hotel.

"Exterior nice but hmm"

Spent 4 nights here in October . First time in San Fransisco . As other reviewers have said -quite dingy and in need of a facelift. Room was ok ,bed comfortable. Had breakfast one day and found it expensive and poor quality in comparison to other hotels we have stayed in. Spent a couple of evenings in the top bar which we enjoyed. Staff up there were great and helped us chose some nice things from the tapas menu, again expensive. Found the location of the hotel to be quite pleasant, lovely breeze and views from the car park. I was tossing up between nob hill and fisherman’s wharf and are glad we chose nob hill. Overall it was an ok stay-certainly woLdnt rush back-but- didn’t see anywhere else I would want to stay either.

"Avoid. Dated, poorly located."
TripAdvisor user rating 2 out of 5

The best thing I can say is that there are some nice views, if your room faces the right way. Beyond that, this place is dated, tired, and poorly located. Rooms are small, walls are paper thin. You’l hear your neighbor talk, or snore, or flush their toilet. Windows are single pane, so traffic noise is significant even if you are high up. The Top of the Mark restaurant is fine, but fairly cheesy (beyond the views). No real bar to speak of in the lobby area (four bar stools don’t count). There is nothing within easy walking distance (restaurants, bars, ...). This may have been a prime property at some point in the past. Today, there is no reason to stay here.
