Hotel was dirty, staff disinterested and unhelpful. Halls smelled of cigarette smoke and weed. Worn carpets. TV did not work and could not be fixed. Asked guest services for ice machine and was sent to one that did not work. Asked front desk about it and was told it hasn't worked for awhile and sent to another one. Under renovation in the front. Generally run down and messy.

I have been staying in this area for years and trust me: avoid this hotel at any cost. In my last stay, I took a redeye to get to NYC and reserved my room for the night before, to make sure I have my room ready. Oh and I am a spire elite member, the highest membership at IHG. I even sent the hotel 2 emails to verify they know I am arriving late. Guess what: when I arrived after a red eye, I was told my room was given and they have no available room. This is despite the fact I paid for it. After insisting that I emailed the hotel the lady did not believe me (seriously) and asked to see the emails. She then said they "did not go through" and gave me room. When I went upstairs it turned out it was a 2 double deb room vs. the king I reserved. She said it was an upgrade, when I asked how a 2 bed room an upgrade to a single traveler she had no answer. Needless to say no one contacted me, asked how to resolve it or offered any apology. I come to NYC every 2-3 weeks and will never ever stay there again.

Even though the rooms are quite small, the gracious and friendly staff more than make up for it and the reasonably priced restaurant has great food and a friendly staff. Front desk stars are Jennifer and Katherine. Head Bellman Juan is fabulous. Restaurant staff of Ilias and Aaron as well as the chef are wonderful.

Stayed here with a friend for 4 nights in February, our first trip to New York City. On arrival to the hotel, there was a friendly, pleasant man on reception who checked us in quickly and efficiently. We'd booked a high floor city view room, we were given a room on the 22nd floor with a view of One World Trade Center so were pleased with this. We were a little worried about the lifts/ being slow as lots of reviews on here have mentioned this issue, but actually we had no issues at all! We never waited more than a couple of minutes for one the whole time we were there, apart from our last day when we were on our way down to check out and we waited slightly longer, but no more than around 4-5 minutes. The room itself was quite small but it seems that's the case in a lot of NYC hotels - it wasn't a problem as we were out exploring most of the time and didn't spend a great deal of time in the room, only to sleep! Nice clean bathroom, nice shower (no problems with water pressure as I've seen from previous reviews, ours was fine), with lovely Bath & Body Works mini toiletry bottles. Towels and bedding were changed every day. Some areas of the hotel looked a little tired/worn (particularly some corridors and the elevators) but this wasn't a problem for us - if we'd wanted a luxury hotel we would have paid more but all we wanted was somewhere clean and tidy, just to sleep at night and this was what we got. Found all of the staff very helpful - one evening we had Chinese takeaway food and we asked the man on reception if he knew where there was a fridge we could store some of it to eat later, and within half an hour he had arranged for a small fridge to be brought up to our room. We didn't use the hotel restaurant as we had all of our meals whilst out and about, so can't comment on that. Great location close to subway stations so we found it very easy to get about to all of the places we wanted to visit. When it came to checking out, this was a simple process and the staff were happy to store our luggage so we could spend our last few hours shopping and sightseeing. On return to the hotel our bags were returned to us quickly and the staff were very helpful making sure we knew how to get back to JFK airport (just a tip - subway and Airtrain was the best option - a lot cheaper than a cab and was probably the quickest option too). On the whole we were very happy. No complaints, for what we paid it was great. I am looking to return to NYC in the near future and bring my children this time, and when I do I would definitely be happy to stay here again.
