"Best Courtyard property ever!"

I'm a loyal Marriott person but have always been lukewarm on the Courtyard concept. This is a very special application of the Courtyard name. The building is a beautifully restored 1920's bank building that was converted to a hotel in 1999, then some room renovations a few years ago. The 2-story lobby is especially impressive with tons of marble and intricately painted ceiling and chandeliers from the original building. At this Courtyard they use part of that huge lobby space to do closer to full-service dining (albeit limited menu), a good sized bar with large selection of beers on tap, and a nice billiards area. Every member of the staff we encountered was very pleasant and friendly. We liked the location - 15 min walk to waterfront, 30 min walk to Balboa park, on the edge of GasLamp district with plenty of entertainment options.

Stayed here on business, great location, close to downtown and the Gaslamp District, 15 minute walk from the cruise ship docks too. Lots of restaurants and clubs close by. Hotel restaurant and bar was also very nice. Hotel is located in an old bank so decor is unique, nice. Rooms are very comfortable and quiet with the usual amenities: TV, desk, hair dryer, safe, iron and board. Great place if you are visiting for business or pleasure.

A converted bank building it has an open lobby with a connected bar/breakfast room. The structure itself is quite grand with tall columns, marble, and a comfortable lounge area. Be sure to check out the vault in the basement! On the downside is that the neighborhood is overrun with homeless people.

We spent three nights in San Diego at this hotel and absolutely loved the ambience of the lobby of this former bank-turned-hotel property. It is impeccably restored/maintained and we even ate dinner one night in the lobby while watching ncaa basketball. They offer a great happy hour for drinks so it was hard to drag ourselves away. It was an easy walk to the Gaslamp district and the USS Midway, and the airport, zoo and Coronado island were a 10 minute drive. My only note of caution is that the immediate area outside of the hotel is well-frequented by homeless individuals.

There are hotel lobbies, and then there are hotel lobbies like this one that invite hanging out. We had a late dinner and drinks at the bar after arriving late due to a delayed flight on our first night. The bar and dining areas are comfortable and feature lots of interesting design features. Make sure to look up at the detail on the ceilings. The hotel is located within an easy walk of the Gaslamp District, Marina Park, and plenty of shopping. We Lyfted to the beaches every day and never had to wait more than a couple minutes due to the hotel's convenient location. The rooms are clean, kept up consistently, and larger than is typical for downtown hotels. The only remarkable issue we experienced was a strong pot smell coming from the air vents on our second day. I've come to expect that on the streets of CA, but not in my room. The hotel staff were responsive in having the air system and hallways fumigated.
